- International human rights bodies Amnesty International and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) have called for an investigation of the Taliban in Afghanistan as possible crimes against humanity of gender persecution. The Taliban’s actions, which have prevented women from accessing education, public life, and employment, constitute a “war against women,” according to a report by the two groups. The report highlights the crimes against humanity of gender persecution under Article 7(1)(h) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which it says the Taliban has carried out. The researchers also said that the Taliban’s actions are international crimes, organized, widespread, and systematic. Moreover, the report argues that women have been excluded from political positions, most public sector jobs, and are now considered as “second-class citizens.”
