Actor Ryan Reynolds is reportedly partnering with a real estate group to purchase NHL franchise the Ottawa Senators along with building a new downtown arena. Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney already co-own Welsh football club Wrexham. Reynolds had previously confirmed his interest in purchasing a stake in the Senators, whose previous owner Eugene Melnyk passed away last March. Reynolds’ potential takeover of the Ottawa Senators could be chronicled in a documentary similar to the “Welcome to Wrexham” series. Reynolds had earlier stated that he needed a partner with “really deep pockets” to complete the Senators deal. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has assured Senators fans that the team would not leave Ottawa.
