JJ Watt offers to cover funeral expenses of a fan’s grandfather in a heartwarming gesture

On Wednesday, Jennifer Simpson, a Houston Texans fan, tweeted that she was prepared to sell a pair of JJ Watt Reebok sneakers and an old Watt replica jersey to fund her grandfather’s funeral. However, she received an unexpected reply from Watt himself, who tweeted, “Don’t sell your shoes and jersey. We’ll help with the funeral.” Simpson, a 26-year-old teacher, was thrilled with Watt’s offer and responded, “I freaking love you man.” Watt, a former Texans player now with the Arizona Cardinals, is renowned for his contributions to the community both in his former team’s city and beyond. Among his philanthropic work are founding the Justin J. Watt Foundation, covering funeral costs for victims of the Waukesha attack, and, in 2018, offering to pay for the funerals of victims of the mass shooting at Santa Fe High School. The Simpsons have had financial challenges since June 20 and were attempting to fundraise for the funeral. Watt’s gesture has provided much-needed relief for the family, and Simpson tweeted her gratitude for the support she and her family received from people who don’t know their story.
