College basketball player criticizes double standards regarding racial insensitivity after being criticized for making a hand gesture.

LSU basketball player Angel Reese created controversy during the NCAA championship game when she waved her hand in front of her face to signify “you can’t see me” while facing Caitlin Clark. Reese then pointed towards her finger as if to say a championship ring was coming while walking towards Clark. These gestures sparked a social media frenzy with opinions divided between supporting Reese for her trash talk and condemning her for lacking grace in victory. Reese, however, was unapologetic in the post-game news conference and pointed out the hypocrisy in the media coverage of her as a Black athlete performing gestures compared to the media’s reaction when the white Clark did similar earlier in the NCAA tournament. The gesture of moving an open hand in front of their face was popularized by wrestling star John Cena in the WWE to signify “you can’t see me.”
