Rewritten title: A Nervy Main Event Sees Leon Edwards Successfully Defend Welterweight Title Against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286

Leon Edwards successfully defended his welterweight title against Kamaru Usman in the main event at UFC 286. Edwards defeated the dominant former champion in August with a head-kick knockout in the final minute of the fight. This time around, using a variety of strikes, Edwards seemed to be leading in the first two rounds until Usman found his grappling form to level the playing field. A close Round 4 left the result no clearer, but Edwards’ quality came to the forefront in the final round, denying his challenger takedowns and stinging him with uppercuts and leg kicks. Ultimately, the judges’ scorecards read 48-46, 48-46, 47-47 in Edwards’ favor, keeping Britain’s second UFC champion unbeaten for eight years. Justin Gaethje also won his fight against Rafael Fiziev in the co-main event with a majority decision.
