Former Wimbledon Champion Garbine Muguruza to Take a Long Break from Professional Tennis

Garbine Muguruza, who had won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017, is planning to take an extended break from playing competitive tennis and will be missing the upcoming French Open and Wimbledon. She has only played four matches this year and hasn’t played since January. The Spanish player, who was once ranked number one globally, is now ranked outside the top 130 and has only made it to the quarter-finals once this year. The two-time grand slam champion has posted on Instagram that she has been spending time with family and friends, and it has been healthy and amazing, so she is going to extend this period till summer. Muguruza had earlier indicated her intention to play during the WTA’s visit to the United Arab Emirates in February, but later withdrew from the Abu Dhabi Open.
