Dusan Lajovic caused an upset at the Srpska Open quarter-finals as he emerged victorious in straight sets against world number one Novak Djokovic. This was Djokovic’s first loss to a fellow Serbian since Janko Tipsarevic beat him about 11 years ago. The defeat comes after Djokovic revealed during a press conference prior to the tournament that he had been grappling with an elbow problem. The match was played in Bosnia, with Djokovic losing 6-4 7-6. This marks Djokovic’s third defeat of the season, with the Madrid Open being his next planned tournament, scheduled to begin later this month. For Lajovic, this is only his third win in his career against a top-five ranked player. “I am overwhelmed, it is the biggest win of my career,” he stated in his on-court interview. “The emotions are very mixed because I’m playing here in front of the hometown and I’m also playing against a good friend and he’s a hero of our country. Beating him, it’s something that I didn’t even think was going to be possible, but it happened,” he added.
