Barcelona Open triumph sees Carlos Alcaraz match Rafael Nadal’s achievement

Carlos Alcaraz has won his third title of the season after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas to defend his Barcelona Open title. The Spaniard was impeccable throughout the match and secured a 6-3 6-4 victory adding to his previous titles in Buenos Aires and Indian Wells. Although ranked behind Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz is currently in superb form and could emerge as a favourite at the French Open, especially with Djokovic dealing with an elbow problem and Rafael Nadal struggling with a hip injury. Alcaraz also became the first player since Nadal to repeat as Barcelona Open champion. Stefanos Tsitsipas was unable to find a response to Alcaraz’s superior play, who had missed the start of the season due to injury. Fellow teenager Holger Rune also defended his title at the BMW open in Munich against Botic Van De Zandschulp. Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic won the singles in Banja Luka, clinching his second ATP after defeating second seed Andrey Rublev 6-3 4-6 6-4. British player Jamie Murray and New Zealander Michael Venus won the doubles title in Banja Luka, while Argentinian pair Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni won the doubles final in Barcelona against Neal Skupski and Dutchman Wesley Koolhof.
