Liverpool bids farewell to a victorious era as James Milner departs

James Milner’s time at Liverpool is coming to an end. Although he could potentially play until he’s 40, his career with the Reds is limited to just four more games. Jurgen Klopp suggested that Milner’s future may lie in Brighton, though the player may have a few things left to prove yet. Klopp has had several conversations with Milner and expressed his disappointment at not being able to work together with him longer. He feels that Milner has been an incredible part of the Liverpool team and that nothing would have been possible without him. Klopp had hoped to retain both Milner and Roberto Firmino, but the latter has already revealed that he too will go in the summer. Milner may be an invaluable member of any squad and his versatility has been highly valued at Liverpool, but he has been mainly used as a substitute in recent games. Klopp may need to consider using him more as a right-back or a central midfielder if needed. Milner and Firmino were among Brendan Rodgers’ final signings and have contributed significantly to the club. With them both leaving, it marks the end of an era and the shift towards Klopp 2.0 becomes more pronounced. Despite being a predictable figure, Milner has proved himself an unpredictable player, with a remarkable year at left-back in 2016-17. During his eight years at Anfield, he won everything, including the Champions League, Premier League, and Club World Cup, and took over Liverpool’s iconic No. 7 shirt. Klopp admits he will miss Milner, and he was an essential piece of success to the team.
