Lewis Hamilton has stated that reports linking Charles Leclerc with a move to Mercedes will not affect his own contract negotiations. Although Hamilton has emphasized that he will sign a new deal with Mercedes, no extension is reportedly forthcoming at this point in the season. The Italian media have linked Leclerc with a move to the Silver Arrows, but Hamilton and Mercedes boss Toto Wolff have denied this claim. Leclerc denied talking with Mercedes, despite rumors that an exit clause for him to leave Ferrari a year early could be feasible if certain performance objectives aren’t met. Hamilton supports the changes made to the sprint format this week, although he acknowledges that Mercedes has a long way to go in catching up with Red Bull in terms of performance. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix starts tomorrow, with the new sprint shootout on Saturday.
