Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer accused the Conservatives of treating people’s money like “casino chips” and causing higher housing costs for over a million Britons. He blamed this situation on the Tories for “crashing the economy” with their disastrous mini-budget last autumn. Sir Keir also pointed out that 850,000 people are already paying more on their mortgages each month, and that by the end of the year, a further 930,000 will be paying a premium due to the fallout from the financial plans. The Labour leader also criticized Conservative councillors for “not wanting to build the houses local people need.” In response, Chancellor Rishi Sunak accused Labour of leaving the country with no money when they were last in power, and called out their poor record on housebuilding. He emphasized that the Conservatives are delivering lower council tax, lower crime, and fewer potholes.
