Former US President Donald Trump ridiculed the unsuccessful launch of Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign on Twitter Spaces, jokingly referencing North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. In a post on his newly launched social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!” In a subsequent tweet, Trump took a jab at DeSantis, saying that “Rob” (referring to DeSantis) had a smaller and less effective button than Kim Jong-un, according to his conversation with North Korea’s leader.
Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., also joined in on the mockery, calling DeSantis’ campaign launch a “DeSaster” and comparing him unfavorably to Jeb Bush’s 2016 campaign. Trump himself posted two videos on Truth Social, one showing a Tesla rocket with “Ron” written on it crashing, and another incorporating clips of the chaotic Twitter event with Trump’s own campaign launch.
The Twitter event, which began at 6pm ET, was disrupted almost immediately by technical issues and dropped audio. Despite the mishap, DeSantis expressed a desire to do something similar again in the future. He announced his candidacy for the presidency, outlining his plans for American revitalization and discussing right-wing culture war issues that are popular among his supporters.
