Immunity granted to 8 alleged fake electors in Georgia election investigation

At least eight Republican fake electors who signed a certificate falsely stating that former President Donald Trump had won the state of Georgia have been given immunity deals by the prosecutor investigating interference in the 2020 election, according to a court filing by defense attorney Kimberly Debrow. The filing, which was made on Friday, does not identify the eight people who were offered immunity deals. Last year, it emerged that each of the 16 people who signed the false elector certificate was a target of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation into whether Trump and his allies committed any crimes while attempting to overturn his narrow election loss. Willis has advised law enforcement agencies to prepare adequate security ahead of her announcement about whether to seek charges, which she intends to make sometime between mid-July and early September.
