Greg Gutfeld, a Fox News anchor, has attributed the death of Jordan Neely, a Black man who was held in a chokehold by an ex-marine and subsequently died, to the murder of George Floyd. Neely, who was homeless and had complained about being hungry and thirsty, had reportedly not attacked anyone nor appeared to be armed before he was placed in the chokehold. Gutfeld, however, claimed that Neely’s death was a result of the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, which led to chaos, police defunding, and a void in which there were fewer police. He also appeared to excuse vigilantism as a natural response to protests against police brutality. Gutfeld’s statements have drawn criticism for their insensitivity towards victims of police brutality and the homeless.
