The event started at 6 pm ET but was immediately plagued by audio issues and suffered from a massive number of participants that “was melting the servers,” according to one of the moderators, David Sacks. Trump Jr. took to Twitter to mock his father’s main opponent in the GOP presidential nomination as the “DeSaster” campaign launch unfolded. Meanwhile, Representative Santos, who is facing federal charges of fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and false statements, poked fun at the situation, tweeting “Twitter is crashing! LOL.” A Trump campaign spokesperson also made fun of the event, calling it glitchy, uncomfortable, and a complete failure to launch. After 21 minutes of technical difficulties, Mr. DeSantis finally launched his campaign. However, the delayed start, coupled with the technical issues, drew sharp criticisms from various quarters, including journalist Tom Nichols and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.
