Several Waymo independent automobiles have been set ablaze in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday amid standard protests in opposition to President Donald Trump‘s immigration crackdown.
A spokesperson for the Alphabet-owned corporate showed there have been more than one Waymo automobiles within the neighborhood of protests that have been not able to be retrieved. Waymo is postponing provider within the protest space till it’s deemed secure, the spokesperson added.
Waymo spoke back with steering from the Los Angeles Police Department, the spokesperson mentioned.
The protests erupted in downtown L.A. on Friday after Immigration and Customs Enforcement performed raids within the town and surrounding communities. Demonstrations have been in large part non violent, however tensions flared Saturday and Sunday, with police clashing with protesters close to the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown LA.

California National Guard participants arrived within the town on Sunday after Trump signed an order to deploy 2,000 troops in accordance with the protests.
In one photograph, no less than 5 Waymo robotaxis will also be noticed engulfed in flames, with anti-ICE graffiti scrawled around the automobiles’ hoods and doorways. It’s unclear whether or not the automobiles have been intentionally focused.
Some other people have been noticed tossing Lime e-scooters into the burning Waymo automobiles, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“Burning lithium-ion batteries release toxic gases, including hydrogen fluoride, posing risks to responders and those nearby,” the LAPD mentioned in a remark posted on X.
Waymo started providing robotaxi rides throughout 80-plus sq. miles of LA in 2024. The provider additionally operates in portions of San Francisco, Phoenix and Austin.
