Quirky international of Wes Anderson set for Design Museum retrospective

Hundreds of gadgets from the flicks of Oscar and Bafta award-winning director Wes Anderson are to head on show in west London in a retrospective of his paintings.

Known for his quirky and meticulously-created taste and pastel-coloured aesthetic, the exhibition on the Design Museum in Kensington will function greater than 600 fashions, props and costumes from motion pictures together with the Grand Budapest Hotel and Royal Tenenbaums.

The museum says that is the primary time this stuff had been displayed in Britain.

Co-curator Lucia Savi mentioned each object used to be “very personal to him – they are not simply props, they are fully formed pieces of art and design that make his inventive worlds come to life”.

Curators say the exhibition will start with 1996’s Bottle Rocket, Anderson’s first function movie, and finish with The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a brief movie in line with a Roald Dahl tale for which he gained an Oscar in 2024 for perfect are living motion quick movie.

As neatly as completed props and units, the exhibition will function work-in-progress subject matter and maquettes – a small-scale type or tough draft of a sculpture or architectural paintings – organisers say.

Tim Marlow, director and leader government of the Design Museum, mentioned: “He’s an utterly compelling creator of cinematic worlds, whose singular vision and attention to detail are underpinned by an acute understanding of design and craftsmanship, which is why the Design Museum is the perfect location for this landmark retrospective.”

The display, which premiered at los angeles Cinematheque francaise in Paris in March, launches on 21 November.
