Four-time grand slam winner Naomi Osaka has gained her first WTA identify since triumphing on the 2021 Australian Open after beating Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan 6-1 7-5 within the ultimate of the lower-level L’Open 35 de Saint-Malo event.
It used to be the 27-year-old Japanese participant’s first identify – albeit simplest on the minor WTA 125 point – since she was a mom in July 2023.
“Kinda ironic to win my first trophy back on the surface that I thought was my worst.
“That’s one of my favourite things about life though, there’s always room to grow and evolve,” Osaka posted on X about her clay-court triumph in France on Sunday.
Osaka struggled along with her loss of energy and accuracy as she did not development past the second one spherical of any grand slam closing 12 months.
But the previous global No.1, who reached the 3rd spherical of the Australian Open in January ahead of retiring because of damage, is about to function in the primary draw of the French Open later this month.
Osaka had authorised a wildcard into the development because the No.2 seed and loved a superb run, losing a suite apiece to French gamers Diane Parry and Leolia Jeanjean en path to her first event win in 4 years.
