Bangor: Public instructed to keep away from the city centre after firearms incident

The public were instructed to keep away from the centre of Bangor in County Down because of a firearms incident.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) cordon is in position at the High Street within the town.

Videos circulating on social media seem to turn armed police in the street confronting a person in conjunction with the obvious sound of gunshots.

It is thought the war of words has now ended, with Ulster Unionist meeting member Alan Chambers posting on X that nobody have been injured in “what was a tense situation”.

“Huge appreciation to the PSNI for how they handled this incident,” he added.

Earlier Alliance’s Andrew Muir described it as an “extremely serious and concerning incident” whilst his birthday party colleague Connie Egan stated it used to be “no doubt incredibly distressing and difficult for residents to come to terms with”.

“I’d urge anyone in the immediate area around Bangor High Street to please shelter indoors until it’s deemed safe by the authorities.

“I’ve been attractive with PSNI and can proceed to take action as issues development.”
