Benson Bocboc, who has juggled high-profile training roles for Farm Fresh within the Premier Volleyball League and the University of the Philippines in UAAP Season 87, is nearing a pivotal occupation transition—and it’s one he all the time knew used to be coming.
After all, he used to be serving Farm Fresh in an intervening time position. And as for the Maroons, he knew he most effective had a season to run the squad.
“That’s what we agreed on at first, only for this season,” he mentioned.
After guiding the Foxies to a 5-6 report, Bocboc will quit the reins to veteran global tactician Alessandro Lodi, who would be the 3rd trainer for Farm Fresh in two years.
“This marks a new chapter for our teams,” mentioned Farm Fresh staff supervisor Kiara Cruz in a media commentary. “… [W]e’re not just maintaining momentum—we’re becoming stronger.”
Meanwhile, within the collegiate ranks, Bocboc recommended the Fighting Maroons to a decent sixth-place end within the UAAP ladies’s volleyball match. The staff went 6-8, notching unexpected wins in opposition to identify contenders National University and La Salle.
He needed he can have carried out higher. And which may be the objective if he’s requested to stick.
“Whatever we agree on later, we’ll see. But if I do stay, we’ll push further,” he mentioned.
“It can’t be like this (missing the semifinals). People say we did well, but we fell short of the Final Four. We’ll talk after this, maybe organize a meeting in a few weeks, and then decide where we’re going.”
Not assured
Team captain Nica Celis is ready to transport on, whilst key gamers Joan Monares, Irah Jaboneta and Niña Ytang are nonetheless weighing their futures. Replacing them can be a promising trio from California Academy—the high-scoring Casiey Dongallo, setter Kizzie Madriaga and hitter Jelai Gajero—who redshirted this season after moving from the University of the East.
Also on board is their highschool trainer, Obet Vital.
Bocboc famous that the brand new additions haven’t begun to coach with the present squad, as the point of interest remained only in this season. Even with their possible, he cautioned that replicating the chemistry evolved this 12 months is a long way from assured, particularly with the opportunity of any other training shake-up.
“Let’s say I’m still here next season—I only committed to try to reach the Final Four this year,” Bocboc mentioned. “All our focus was on this season. We weren’t thinking about being stronger next year. No one thought, ‘Let’s just do better next year.’ Because honestly, we don’t know what we’ll have next year.”
Elsewhere, within the UAAP males’s volleyball semifinals, University of Santo Tomas and National University are set to stand off in a do-or-die conflict at 2 p.m. on the Smart Araneta Coliseum. INQ
